Power banks and loose lithium batteries must always be carried in carry-on baggage—never in checked baggage. This also applies if your carry-on baggage is checked at the gate.
How large can the batteries you bring be?
-
Up to and including 100 Wh per battery:
You may bring them in your carry-on baggage without prior approval.
-
Over 100 Wh and up to and including 160 Wh per battery:
You must obtain approval from Air Greenland before traveling. Contact our Call Center via Contact us, and bring the approval with you so you can show it at check-in. You may bring a maximum of two loose batteries of this size.
-
Over 160 Wh per battery:
May not be carried in either carry-on or checked baggage.
You may bring a maximum of two power banks per person.
Storage and safety on board
Your power bank must be kept in the seat pocket in front of you throughout the flight. It may not be stored in the overhead bin. This allows you and the cabin crew to quickly detect and respond if it overheats or begins to produce smoke.
- You may not charge your power bank on board.
- Protect power banks and loose batteries against short circuits, for example by using a separate protective case or covering the batteries’ exposed terminals with tape.
- Contact the cabin crew immediately if your power bank or battery becomes unusually hot, swells, smells burnt, or produces smoke.
Mobile phones, tablets, and laptops
Electronic devices with built-in batteries, such as mobile phones, tablets, and laptops, must be carried in your carry-on baggage.
Are you unsure about the battery size?
The capacity is stated in Wh (watt-hours) and is normally listed on the battery or power bank. If you cannot find the information, you can check the manufacturer’s website or contact the manufacturer before traveling.
