If a flight is cancelled or delayed by more than 4 hours, Air Greenland provides a meal voucher to each passenger.
Meal vouchers should be considered a contribution to cover additional food expenses for each passenger.
Below you can find information about how and when meal vouchers are issued, depending on your location.
If your delay occurs in Nuuk – electronic meal voucher
From 26 May 2026, we will begin testing electronic meal vouchers on selected cancelled departures from Nuuk. You can read more about the digital solution here:
If you are in Nuuk in connection with a cancellation or a delay of more than 4 hours, you will receive your meal vouchers electronically via email and be notified by SMS. It is therefore important that you regularly check these channels and ensure that the contact details in your booking are correct.
Please note the following
- Each meal voucher can be used once
- If you receive a meal voucher via multiple channels, it is the same voucher and can only be used once, even if it has been sent through several channels
How you will receive your meal vouchers
- Meal vouchers are sent to the email registered as the primary contact on the booking
- If multiple passengers are travelling under the same booking, all meal vouchers will be sent to this e-mail primary e-mail.
- If you do not have access to e-mail, you can contact ground staff at the airport, who can:
- Update your contact details and resend the meal vouchers directly to you Updated details will also be used for any future vouchers on your journey.
- Print your meal vouchers
When are meal vouchers sent?
Meal vouchers are typically issued as follows:
- Delay on the day of departure: approx. 4 hours after scheduled departure.
- Cancellation on the day of departure: approx. 15 minutes after you receive your new travel plan, if the delay exceeds 4 hours.
-
Cancellation or delay before the day of departure: before 10:00 am on the original departure day
- Example: If your flight is changed 2 days prior to departure, you will receive meal vouchers before 10:00 am on your original travel day
During extended delays
- In the case of multi-day delays, meal vouchers are sent daily.
- You will normally receive new meal vouchers before 10:00 am for the same day's meals and possibly breakfast for the following day.
- If changes occur during your journey (e.g. change of accommodation, further delays, or advancement), you will receive an email with updated meal vouchers
Breakfast
Whether you receive a breakfast meal voucher depends on whether breakfast is included in your accommodation.
Cancellation of meal vouchers
Meal vouchers are automatically cancelled if you or a travel companion:
- Cancel the journey
- Are rebooked for an earlier departure
- Change to accommodation where meals are included
Where meal vouchers can be used
Meal vouchers can be used in cafés, restaurants, and retail shops that participate in the program. You can find an overview here.
For group travelers or bookings made via a travel agency
If you are travelling as part of a group or your journey has been booked via a third party (e.g. a travel agency), we may not always have the correct contact details. Therefore, you should contact the ground staff at the airport, who will register your contact details and send meal vouchers to you. Any subsequent meal vouchers during your journey will be sent automatically to these contact details.
If you are denied boarding or miss a connection
If you are denied boarding or miss your onward connection from Nuuk, please contact the ground staff at the airport, who will ensure that you receive your meal vouchers.
If your journey starts in Nuuk
If your booking starts in the same location where you are delayed, you will NOT automatically receive a meal voucher.
This is because, as a general rule, no compensation for meal expenses is provided to travelers who reside in the city where the delay occurs.
If you believe that you have not received a meal voucher in error and your booking starts in Nuuk, you can contact the ground staff at the airport, who can issue a meal voucher to you. You may be asked to provide proof of residence, for example with a proof of address certificate.
If your delay occurs at other destinations in Greenland
Please contact staff at the airport or heliport to receive your meal vouchers in physical form.
Please note that if you reside in the same town where the cancellation occurs, you will not receive compensation for meal expenses and will therefore not be issued meal vouchers.
If you choose to stay privately with family or friends, Air Greenland does not cover accommodation costs. In practice, this also means that if you have the option to stay privately and are therefore stranded, meal vouchers will generally not be issued.
